MyTherapy

Right, so MyTherapy is a charity idea developed about a month ago. The aim of the charity is to subsidise therapy costs for those who are in low income households who have a mental condition too extreme to be on waiting lists. Not that the NHS is doing a bad job content wise, but I remember my waiting list time tyo be three months, and that was horrific while I waited. That's the aim. In terms of fundraising, I think I'll advertise exclusivly through Private Eye. Their Eye Need section is pretty good. I posted a question on AskMetafilter about starting a charity and one sober response got me pretty good. Some highlights:

Running a charity is - at the very least - like running a complicated small business. It is a legal minefield where one wrong step won't blow you up, but may have you charged with fraud, or tax evasion, or worse.

Really, unless you're very experienced (in which case, no offence, but you wouldn't be askinf this question here), I strongly recommend finding a charity with similar goals, and donating your money or time to them. If you are serious, and have serious quantities of money or time, you will be taken seriously. You will be able to accomplish your goals with the protection (legal, financial, public), experience and resources of a much larger organisation.

I could go on,but most of the things I'm talking about are "soft" problems, rather than the "hard" legal, financial or regulatory issues that could scupper you.

Yeah, I may need help, and I think the idea would be pretty good, so...Help needed!
